What should I name my horse?
I just bought a 7 year old Thoroughbred mare today, who I plan to use as an eventing horse. She has a funny personality, loves to ride fast, is very smart, and athletic. She’s also a very “petite” horse! Her full name is “Miss Happiness” — what should be her nick name? ![]()
She’s also chestnut color, with a white star…if this helps. I was thinking either “Missy” or “Happy” – but these names sound too boring. But I also want a name to fit her full name. Any ideas?
We have 8 Quarter Horses & we just go with short versions of their registered names (Cowboy, Sage, Tucker, Tonto, Chip, Jep,Drift & Raffles).
Ours were easy, they are all geldings. Mares are a bit tougher. You want the name to fit the horse & mares usually have softer names than geldings do, which I would think would make it a bit tougher to pull a call name from.
I would go with “MISS” or just go off the board & call her ANYTHING you want without using her registered name at all, like my husband does with one of his…our boys & I call him Drift, my husband usually refers to him as butthead, but it is said & meant with GREAT affection. He is my husband’s favorite… Congratulations on your new horse & have fun!!!!!
