Eating green grass was one of his favorite past times. He especially liked the limited white flowers from clover. Since sick as he was, he still managed to eat several the flowers before he perished. I brought in a couple more within the tasty tidbits, but those lay untouched in his cage that cleaned this morning. But at least he died among his preferred things. Losing a pet can be a sad thing, even when you already know death is near. Tinkle Toes did not look suffering and I’m thankful for the. He brought a lot of happiness to our lives and we have various wonderful memories. Feeling both the joy in addition to pain of loving someone is element of what makes us human. It reminds me to a quote by Anatole France, “Until is attempting loved an animal, a element of one’s soul remains unawakened. ” When we buried our bunny, the morning light filtered in the trees and created a bright spot on your platform very close to where Tinkles was laid to rest. There are so often when I bumble about and forget to get noticable the beauty of the world around me. It brought this approach quote by St. Francis of Assisi to mind. “Ask the beasts and they’ll teach you the beauty of this earth. ” I felt the luminescence was a signal that our little bunny’s spirit was a student in a better place and plainly shifted my consciousness, I could be in a better place too. I cannot truthfully say that this moment in the sun removed my sadness. I will miss our little pet. I will remember how he would stand up on his back legs to eat a treat, the way he’d sneak out and make me chase him over the house, and how happy he was plop inside the grass and eat dandelions and clover. It’s okay that I am sad. It’s okay that I get this nostalgic trip down a final five years of our pelt baby’s life. I agree using Lacie Petitto who said, “A pet is usually never truly forgotten until it truly is no longer remembered. ” And I intend to remember Tinkle Toes and most of the wonderful pets who have shared their lives with me at night. It is ironic that is a love and devotion of pets that best teach us learn how to be human. I don’t have the funds to add a wing to the pet hospital or create a good refuge for animals. However, I am able to do what I have consistently done, respect the earth and the creatures, make environmentally sound options, support “no kill” shelters, your humane society and PETA. Eventually, I’m not sure when, we will adopt another bunny or simply two. Even though I feel the losing of our rabbit, it would sadder still so that you can punish ourselves further by refusing providing another pet to enter your lives. I believe Gary Kowalski, author in the Souls of Animals, said the idea best. “It is just not that animals make the earth more scenic or picturesque. The lives of animals are generally woven into our very being – closer than our personal breathing – and our soul will suffer when they are gone.
